This is a St. Pete institution- with great value priced take out. Don't actually dine there- the interior hasn't been updated or dusted in years. This place is strictly for take out, and in that regard will not disappoint.

I was really surprised by this place. Is this the most amazeballs Chinese food that I have ever had? no. Is this incredibly delicious, fresh, and inexpensive take out with overly friendly service? ABSOLUTELY. Yes the building could use some updating, but so could my house. The food doesn't disappoint and that's what matters.

I think this must be some sort of mob front because there is never anyone there and the good is downright awful. We went there once to satisfy our curiosity but will never be back. I don't mind a little worn decor. In fact we seek out little holes in the wall but the food cannot make up for anything. I always think of the South Park episodes with City Chicken and City Beef, said with a bad accent. You know what I'm taking about. It's so easy to do mediocre Chinese take out, they are all over. You really have to go out of your way to be so bad.

Worst food to spend money on. Ordered chicken low mien and a egg roll, the taste was disappointing. Stay away and find another place.

I live pretty close to here and have been wanting to find a yummy Chinese place that I could frequent! Glad I went here! As everyone has said the deco isn't anything fancy. I went in to order takeout and was greeted by a smiling man. Pork Lo mein, fried rice, egg roll, crab rangoon 11$ and took about 10 mins! It's super delicious (the crab rangoon is light and crispy, yummmmm!) I look forward to going back!

Spur of the moment decision to eat there last night - we dined in. Am happy we tried it. The steamed dumplings were delicious. The pork egg foo young was absolutely delicious. I could definitely taste it was fresh and made on the spot, not pre-made and frozen. For once, I could actually taste the egg. My husband had the pork lo mein, and he gave it a thumb's up. No, it's not NYC.... Come on people....accept that you live in Tampa Bay and judge accordingly. China City is not the prettiest of places, but hey, I find that holes-in-the-wall stay in business because the food speaks for itself.

My girlfriend was in charge of picking a place to have lunch and she found this place on google. I looked this place on Yelp and warned her it might not be a good place but she insisted the google had 4 star on this place. Appearance: 100% wrong. The place looks like its been closed for decades. Very scary looking. Interior: The same as outside. So dark, old, dirty looking. Food: If they can open a restaurant, anybody can. Your home maid Chinese without any experience would probably come out the same quality or maybe even better. Price: Very cheap like fast food. Less than $5 for soup, eggroll and lunch entree. Service: I'm not sure if he was the owner or the manager but he was nice. So it hurts me to say these things. I have no idea how this place ended up looking the way it is. There are too many things wrong with this place. I really hope they will see their problems and make an improvement for their sake.

This was to be the 1st time we tried this place. It's literally right around the corner in walking distance, but we called for takeout after perusing their websites menus, figuring out what we wanted (mouths are now watering) - only to call to place our order and realize they're closed on Sunday. Argh!!! Will (hopefully) raise the stars once we're able to actually get some food from them. LOL!!

The first time I ordered delivery ( a little over a month ago) from China City they were great. They were friendly, got my order right and delivered it to my door with no problems! I called again this evening for delivery and the man on the phone told me that I was not in their delivery range. I explained that we have had delivery before with no issues and the man proceeded to tell me "No, I don't think you did", as if I didn't know who I ordered from. Then he told me I could order if the order was more than $20. Needless to say I will not be ordering from China City any longer and they just lost good business! It is a shame because I enjoyed them very much the first time!

By far the worst food I've eaten in my life. I would rather siphon a gas tank than eat this sub par slop. The chicken that they serve is not chicken. I get nauseated every time I drive by this dump. Do your self a favor and grab a slice of pizza.

I've found China City's service to be consistently quick and friendly with great food for outstanding low prices. I order take out from there at least every other week and they are always right on time. I would highly suggest their hot and sour soup, it's unlike any other hot and sour soup I've had anywhere else and the orange chicken is fantastic.

Im a New Yorker and I know how good chinese food is supposed to taste. The problem is too many chinese restaurants in the Tampa Bay area boasts NY style chinese food. Bulls**t. China city is one of the closest out of a handful to NY style in the area. Being from the NYC, outside of Chinatown the best take out spots are hole in the walls(trust me). China city's food is some of the best i had since coming to florida. I suggest to anyone the fried rice, lo mein, and chicken wings. Never judge a book by its cover. I must admit the place looks dingy on the inside and out. But the food will not dissappoint. The wait staff is very courteous. The owner will remind you of David carradine in kung fu. The waitress I must admit is somewhat lazy with busing the tables but brings you your food in a timely manner with a smile

Worst Chinese food I have EVER had anywhere! Having just moved from Tampa to St Pete, my girlfriend, my parents and I really had no desire to cook so we decided to order food in the first night we were in the new place. Having read a review somewhere my GF suggested China City and really there were no objections, the place was less than 5 minutes from our new condo. Boy did we make a huge mistake. As my opening statement said, it was by far the worst chinese any of us had ever had. For our meals we had a Beef and Broccoli, Kung Pao Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork and two other dishes which no escape me. When calling in the order the waiter told my GF "oh, you do not want that one, that is no good, its not like what you would expect" about some dish (sorry, dont remember which one). Because of how close it was we decided to pick it up and eat in so we could enjoy being at 'home'. When I went to picked it up the place looked like a hole in the wall (literally and figuratively), you pick up your food through a hole in the wall outside. It was our first warning sign that things might not be very good though. Looking inside we could see table settings where guests had dined and the food was still sitting for what appeared to be sometime later, could see into the kitchen for what looked to be a complete mess (and not so appetizing). You typically know it is a bad sign if there are no other guests there at all while you are there / waiting. While we waited for the 20 minutes for our dinners to finish we saw no other customers inside at that time nor any cars pulling in / out. Once we got the dinner home we served dinner family style so everyone could try everything. Needless to say each one of the dishes seemed to get worse than the previous. I will say the only good thing of the entire meal it seemed was the fortune cookies. They were quite good ... I can only suspect that to be the case because they order them in instead of making them. After it was all said and done and we tossed all the left overs and trashed their menu ... we vowed to never return to this place. I do not know how they can continue to make it.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
